CMWC Trademark Information & Merchandising

The NYBMF has trademarked "Cycle Messenger World Championships", and "CMWC". A requirement of acquiring a trademark is protecting it, meaning it has to be licensed in order for anyone to use it. What does this mean for you? If you intend to bring any merchandise displaying CMWC or Cycle Messenger World Championships anywhere on it (whether to sell or trade, excluding items from past events), you will need to have your race ID marked as a merchandiser ID. A merchandiser license for up to two dozen pieces (if worth under $300) is free with your paid registration; however, to acquire this license you must make sure to register as a merchandiser when you get your race ID. Since we will make many of the IDs before registration, let us know if you will be exercising this option by emailing merchandise@nybmf.org. If you are planning to bring more than two dozen pieces OR MORE THAN US $300 WORTH OF MERCHANDISE, letting us know in advance IS ABSOLUTELY NECCESSARY IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE BANNED FROM THE EVENT (your email to merchandise@nybmf.org should list product and quantity). Please remember that the CMWC doesn't pay for itself: in addition to trademark issues, this policy is designed to protect sales of our own merchandise while leaving room for the individual creativity for which the CMWC is a venue (and if your work is good, its scarcity will make it that much more valuable in years to come).
