RESULTS: Monster Track 2005

145 racers from 13 cities descended on a deceptively sunny New York City Saturday for the sixth annual - and biggest ever - Monster Track. Only 99 braved the frigid temperatures and brutal course to finish back at the Frying Pan for Goldsprints, food, and beer. It was so cold that Hugo's sweat froze into a rim of ice on the brim of his cap. Then again, when you're finishing 7th in a race like this, fire & ice is all part of the suffering. What's he have to say about that? "Don't fuck with the fat kids, bitch".
The race was a brutal one, starting at the Frying Pan on 23rd & the Hudson for a four mile hammer up to the first checkpoint at the Blockhouse at the top of Central Park, dodging tourists there to see the gates. Then, the 145 racers went off to 40th & Park, smack dab in the middle of midtown. After that, it was over the bumps on the Williamsburg Bridge and to the Brooklyn Navy Yards. Then Castle Clinton. Before the finish line was one more stop, at 40 Charles Lane.
Unless otherwise noted, the results below are all New Yorkers. BIIIG props go out to Peter from Boston for almost upstaging the locals and leading the pack of at least 11 Bostonians. Also, the Pittsburg kids rolled thick and represented well.
